Chairman’s Update October 2020

I hope you’re all bearing up

By now you’ve probably seen our announcement about the cancellation of our Royal Scots commemorative lunch for this year. We are all disappointed but it’s sadly in keeping with the strange times we are living through.

As you know, we normally participate in the annual Ceremony of Remembrance at Haymarket in Edinburgh. This, too, has been cancelled so we must all abide by the decision taken by Heart of Midlothian and the Civil authorities not to gather at the memorial on Remembrance Sunday.

Along with many others, McCrae’s Battalion Trust will be sending their wreath to Tynecastle, where it will be laid as part of a private online ceremony. Further details are available on the Hearts website. I have no doubt that we will all have the lads and lassies, who gave so much, in our own thoughts at the time.

I look forward to seeing you all next year – on the ferry, in Contalmaison, at Haymarket, and in the Royal Scots Club. 2020 has not been particularly enjoyable but we’ll get through it together and re-unite when the world wakes up again.

Stay Safe!

Craig Herbertson
